Remember what it was like when you were a kid and you got the inevitable snow day? You went out and played in it. Do it again.

Break out (or borrow) some snowshoes or skis
I pity the fool who suffers through the winter on a spin cycle, turbo or rollers. Double pity for those who think they have to get out and log the long miles on the road or gravel. Who’s the idiot that thought it would be a great idea to get frostbite and ruin a perfectly good rig?
Beg, borrow or steal a pair of snowshoes or cross-country skis. There is a ton of powder on the land, so take advantage of it before it disappears at the hand of global warming.
Here’s what I highly recommend though:
- Snowshoes or XC skis (duh)
- Good boots and gaiters
- Long underwear
- Waterproof pants
- Fleece jacket
- Gore Tex shell with good hood to keep snow out of your neck/back
- Thick gloves
- Fleece gaiter for your neck and hat
- Goggles if it is blowing or cold
- Backpack or hip pack to stow stuff
- More water than you think you’ll need
- Snacks
- Dry change of clothes in the car
Get out there and enjoy it – you’ll have a great adventure in an hour and epic trip for anything longer!
