Hmmm… Ignorance or Apathy

I picked up the kiddos and headed over to the mall today for an escape from sticking around the house. Sounded like a good idea in theory – early Sunday morning, hit the little play area, maybe some take-out Chipotle for lunch. Definitely a winner followed by a nap this afternoon.

Well, we arrived at the mall and found the lower deck possessed by scads of lycra-clad riders. Now, I’m all into ‘enjoy the ride’ and could care less as long as you get to ride your bike and be happy, but I almost lost my appetite.

Yeah, I almost lost my appetite because I was conflicted. “Should I care?” “Should I suit up?” “Should I say hi?” “Should I ignore it?” Damn right I was conflicted. But I had more important things to do, like playland and lunch.

I think my infatuation with the whole roller race scene lasted one race. Then I just did it because it was there. Funny part was once I stopped caring, I seemed to enjoy it a heck of a lot more (i.e. from afar).

So is it really ignorance or apathy? Ignorance is not noticing that it is happening – check. I was totally oblivious to the significance of the day. Apathy is genuinely not caring. Bingo. We’re two for two.

Ignorance is bliss, apathy is freedom. I’m digging the season already.

Ignorance, Apathy or Bliss?
